This book shows a very exhaustive report-study about the American Jazz Big Bands writer George T. Simon was very much involved inside this artistic world. He started his career as a drummer playing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, then became a journalist mostly devoted to jazz music and managed recording sessions for different record label companies/5(36).

Its a doorway into the diverse world of big band swing music from the 30s and 40s with all the major and many minor players getting a chapter each. The band leaders, side men, promoters, girl and boy singers are all featured. I love the fact that bands had their own baseball league and played against each other in regular tournaments/5(36).

The Big Bands come swing back to glory in this big, definitive, all-inclusive chronicle of the men and the music that made America forget its troubles and just get happy.
